When John Varan went to join an arctic expedition as an intern, he never expected to find his destiny. His excavations, however, uncovered an ancient chamber which put him in direct contact with his mother’s mind. He also got centuries of memories shoved forcibly into his brain, some belonging to his past lives—others belonging to other lives, memories that minions of Demosia had stolen for her for a long time. This drove him quite mad. Demosia, who fled to the interior of the moon when the Pantheon got wiped out, who occasionally slips down to earth to have children, and who is the last of the Atlanteans, means to rise up a new Atlantis and a new pantheon, with her as the Divine Mother of the pantheon. He joined with Michael believing his parent pantheon cannot return safely so long as the order which destroyed them—just about all of the other Gods—remain. Yet contact with his mother so close to Mt. Erebus put him into direct contact with another mind as well. Erebus promised John the one thing John truly wants most of all: Understanding of the entire universe—if only he will help him build the World he wishes to see.

John changed drastically enough to rename himself. He chose the name of the Roman centurian who was rumored to be cursed to walk the world immortal for winning the gamble for Christ’s cloak. Unbeknownst to him, he IS that guy. The curse was to never break the cycle of reincarnation, a cycle even the gods are caught within, to never see the face of the Creator who created gods and Titans and the Worlds alike. He is this man reborn—and as such, he will actually find it impossible to achieve his burning goal, no matter what Erebus promises.
