A Scion Story: The Doom of Michael Celevos

Chapter 10

Rufus encounters Michael Celevos in a ghostly form during his sleep. He witnesses Lia and a Scion of Baron Samedi named Brigitte attempting to stop Celevos from recovering some relic ritual plates from an old Aztec temple in the heart of Mexico. Brigitte is slain in spite of Rufus’ best efforts to stop him and Lia winds up having to flee.

Determined to put an end to Michael’s latest scheme, Rufus contacts a Scion named Ghost who seems to be a techno-wonder with a knack for the threads of Fate. Ghost helps him pinpoint where most of Michael’s activity will have to be. Rufus also learns that the plates that Michael took were a ritual that Michael’s own father used to reach godhood through sacrifice. If Michael sacrifices Hereos or Demigods he will skyrocket his own apotheosis, as this ritual only requires sufficient power to stir the ichor, not the touch of a God.

Meanwhile, Lia calls Cermait, a former band member, and asks him to come to Mexico. Michael and some giant flaming snakes of Muspelhiem ambush them at the airport. Lia is seriously hurt, but Rufus and Vette show up in time to put an end to the attack. Michael proves as slippery as ever. Cermait and Rufus agree to meet at a church later and then he flies Vette and Lia back to their temporary home so that Vette and Lenore can give Lia some medical attention.

Rufus winds up having to fly down to the Festival of the Burning of the Devil in a town where they build a devil 3 stories high to burn. He stops Michael from sacrificing another Scion and he kills him…only to discover that he’d been fighting a simaliacrum all that time. The demigod he rescued said that perhaps Ixiom was involved and that the Atzlanti had put a bounty on Michael’s head. Rufus reunited her with her own band and returned to meet with Cermait.

In the meantime, Lia woke up. The three women had a pretty good chat before the house was ripped apart by a Balrog shortly after Rufus returned with Cermait and went off in search of a lead to Ixiom. When he returned the tenuous new band found an old base to clean out and use for their own purposes in the hopes of plotting their next move. Vette used a portion of the Balrog’s body to fashion Fire relics for Cermait, Lia, and Lenore so that they could access the Fire Immunity portions of the purview in order to increase their chances of survival.

Chapter 9

Avaracus and Zephyr force march Justin and Vincent across the blasted, frozen landscape of Antarctica, only for the ground to give way beneath the Heroes’ feet, separating them from their captors. Vincent and Justin find themselves in a vast underground maze, a remnant of lost Atlantis. They begin digging up many old secrets in an attempt to find the right artifact to free Adelaide and to free themselves.

During their quest, Vincent is approached by a shadow-form of the dead god Atlantean god Versak. Versak makes him an offer: he wishes to adopt Vincent as his son and as a future God of a new pantheon if he will finish Versak’s work of bringing the still-living and hiding Atlantean goddess Demosia to justice (Demosia is, incidentally, Avaracus’ mother). Vincent accepts in spite of the fact that he knows his own Atzlanti father is not going to be at all pleased.

The two heroes also learn about a prophecy about a time called The Judgment of the Gods that they themselves seem to be wrapped up in some way.

They also learned that Avaracus lied about the remedy for Adelaide’s condition, instructing Vincent to use an artifact that would have reduced her to ash. Vincent finds the right artifact and is enraged. When the two finally catch up with Avaracus, who is about to sacrifice Zephyr in order to bring back Atlantis, Vincent kills him in the back with a single stroke. A black, twisted tree with poisonous fruit grows where Avaracus died. Vincent then interrogates Zephyr with such force that Justin is compelled to leave the room. He ultimately executes the man as his first judgement as the son of the Justice God Versak, and says that part of his punishment will be to be forgotten in obscurity, marked only by the ugly, twisted tree that no one will ever know the meaning of. Legend reverberates dangerously throughout the old ruin at that pronouncement, though Vincent manages to channel it in such a way that there is no disaster. Justin and Vincent then return home and free Adelaide. The three form a permanent Band and begin tackling the monsters that have been plaguing New Orleans’ streets, seemingly out of the Celevos conflict for the time being, but with the shadow of Atlantis hanging over them.

Chapter 8

In anticipation of having to hunt the titanspawn of Muspelhiem and Michael, Rufus has Vette craft a relic for him that will grant him immunity. They spend 3 days on SkjaldbreiĆ°ur, where Rufus winds up fighting creatures of Muspelheim while Vette forges. The result is Skaldfyir, the relic shield amulet that gives Rufus the power he seeks.

Meanwhile, Vincent is not recovering, but is shaken out of his complacency when Avaracus steals a map of some sort from Agwe and puts Del into a frozen sleeping beauty state, promising she will never recover if Vincent interferes. What does Vincent do? Interfere. Justin joins forces with him, but their interference is turned around. Holding Del’s recovery over his head, Avaracus forces them to join forces with him and Zephyr. Vincent and Zephyr go diving for ancient Atlantean artifacts. Vincent secretes at least half of an unknown relic on his person. Justin attempts to attack Avaracus. It does not end well.

Chapter 6

A lot of things happen. Del and Vincent start the raid, only for Heather to betray them. They are taken captive and brought to Ghost Island in Japan, along with everyone who helped them. Vincent attempts to keep it together for his people, but grows in despair under Michael’s crazed cruelty. Meanwhile, Rufus and Vette go to the bank to track Michael down, but instead meet up with Seth, Ixion, Scarlette and Sly Guiler. This proves to be a disaster, to the point where Vette nearly winds up kidnapped. Rufus saves her, but then decides to track down Michael himself. He leaves Vette at a safehouse and tracks Michael to the island. Vette proves to be a fantastic listener; constructing an ornothopter to find him. Rufus winds up having a confrontation with Michael at the island which results in the entire thing being sucked into the Underworld. Together, he, Vette, Adelaide and Vincent coordinate a dramatic escape in the nick of time. Vincent, however, is furious at being upstaged and descends into a fit of bitter drinking. Adelaide decides to take him home, to New Orleans, to let him heal from what he considers to be a massive personal failure of leadership.

Rufus and Vette go to Michael’s bank. They’re attempting to get him on the telephone so that Rufus can use his power to track the man, but things go wrong. Vette is left outside to watch for trouble, but Seth shows up and tells Rufus that they have high powered relic rifles aimed at her head. Seth demands that Rufus release Michael from his guilt visions, and that he hunt down Camaxtil-Xocotl, trapping the Avatar to shut down the titan of Fire and free Michael. Rufus talks Seth into setting up a meeting and walks outside, only to find Vette replaced by Scarlett. Ixion is in the sky with a kidnapped Vette. Rufus confronts him, and Ixion uses his Crawling Chaos power on both of them. 15 hours later they wake up. Furthermore, Vette has been drugged with some sort of substance that seems to be making her loopy and sick. Rufus secrets her away in a hotel, writes a note, and goes after Michael.

Meanwhile, Vincent and Del confront a lindwurm just before the raid. They carry out their raid, but Heather betrays them. Vincent, Adelaide, and all of their supporters wind up easily captured. Michael brings them to the Island of the Ghosts, where he tries to force Vincent to work for him. Michael reveals that he wants to take over the island because it gives him a foothold into the Underworld from which he might launch a military campaign.

Chapter 3

Vette compiles the financial data on Michael Celevos.

Michael has been buying:

6 shipping class vessels. 1 yacht. A fleet of about 20 trucks and vans. All of these were purchased in New York State. However Vette didn’t stop with New York State. There are filings of purchases in Georgia (similar), Illinois (similar) and Washington State (similar). There’s not just UCC info here too; Vette has also placed all tax assessor records under this category. He bought an entire defunct private college up in upstate New York. He bought an Olympic training facility in Southern California. He bought warehouses all along the Gulf Coast. He owns mansion-level houses in New York, SoCal, and Chicago. Those are all under his name. There area also companies. Michael has listed himself as the Resident Agent (the person to whom legal papers must be delivered) for the following S-Corps and Limited Liability corporations: Xochil, LLC which holds a bunch of apartments and condos that appear to be under the management of Southwest Property Management Co, not owned by Michael, Huitzilin, Incorporated, which appears to be an overseas trading company, Mazatl, LLC which appears to own several private airlines and airports, and Michin, Inc, which is a deep sea fisheries operation. He also holds controlling stock certificates in the following companies: the Barrick Gold Corporation, Goldcorp, Inc., and Newport Mining.

Michael’s Bank Statements:

There are no less than 12 accounts that Michael either owns or controls. Three of them are foreign: in Euros, Yuan and straight up gold respectively. The first is in a Swiss account which Vette had to hack to get the details of; the third is in the Caymans (same difference) and the final one is open, if very Chinese. Michael has one for the college and one for each of the companies he owns. The rest are his. Here and there, out of each of them, there is some very large “Cash” transaction, usually around $100,000, that could have gone anywhere or to anyone for any purpose whatsoever.

Vette postulated the following:

“I suspect these are going to his illegal interests. Those warehouses all along the coast are supposedly holding imports but I can’t find any record of them on the port manifests or trucking records. I suspect he’s running drugs, guns, or both out of those. All of that income is listed through Huitzlilin’s records because that’s who he’s got as the owner of the warehouses, and god knows whether it’s bribes, raw materials or underworld payoffs.”

The most recent wire was to Kyoto, leading Rufus to believe that was Michael’s destination. The pair of demigods decided to go find out more. Vette asked Lenore and her new boyfriend Morrie, son of Morrigan, to go to the warehouses on the coast so they could scout them out and find out more.

Meanwhile, Vincent and Del are trying to gather up opposition at the school to turn Michael’s army against him from the inside-out. Heather, a scion of Hera, has joined them in this attempt.

Chapter 2

Michael has held Lenore captive in an ironic pumpkin shell home for some time, but she convinces him to cut a deal with her. He means to take her to a small Central American village where she will show him that things can be done her way, but on the way she manages to tug on his emotions to the point where he simply abandons her, leaving her alone on the road with no relics and no way home. She calls Rufus and Vette to come get her. Lenore later finds her relics were simply sitting in Michael’s apartment all along. He hasn’t been home in forever, but she’s got the key, and is able to retrieve them.

Rufus also calls Michael for a meeting. Initially this goes as well as might be expected. Michael admits that he’s been tainted by the titan Camaxti-Xocotl of Muspelheim. However, Rufus finally spooks him. He attempts to escape, and when Rufus refuses to let him he calls on a bunch of minions to attack innocents in the street. Rufus lets him go to deal with the minions, but not before cursing Michael with visions of his own guilt.

Michael shows Vincent the completed Argo after Vincent brings him the final piece. Vincent meets up with Adelaide and asks for his help in tracking a missing Greek kid. After they find the kid in a secret underground chamber, sacrificed, Vincent sends Adelaide out of there, just in time for Michael to catch him. Adelaide affects a rescue; Vincent steals the Argo and burns down Michael’s mansion. They make their way to Olympus and meet Hermes. They warn Hermes that they have discovered that Michael intends to build an army. Hermes sends them back down to build up a counter-army that can attack who he has on hand at the school.

Meanwhile, Michael takes his most loyal followers and splits for parts unknown.
